For Almost a Year

If I were the man

To wake up next to you

For a year, I would

Have gone to the gym

Learned how to cook

And pursued my career

If I were the man

That looked into your eyes

I would forget

It has been raining outside

If I were the man

With fingers in your hair

I’d bury my nose in it

And always find home

If I were the man

To brush against your skin

I’d keep you warm

From the chilling wind

If I were the man

To kiss you goodnight

I would have been

The happiest man alive
